Guidelines for Internship

The VIVAT International Internship Program offers an opportunity to acquire a deep insight into the functioning of the UN and VIVAT and to work in support of the UN efforts to promote Human Rights, Eradication of Poverty, and Culture of Peace etc.

The Interns offer VIVAT International administrative, advocacy and communication services and in turn are able to develop the professional and specialized skills necessary for working within a non-profit organization in an international environment on behalf of the poor and marginalized.

It’s a unique experience of working with an International non-profit organization in close collaboration with the United Nations, Headquarters, New York.

You can apply to the following Internship Positions:

  • Administration
    • Interns will conduct research, participate in conferences and write articles and reports
    • Assist in correspondence
    • File, and maintain office directory and database contacts
    • Compile  and  edit  reports  coming  from  VIVAT  members  and  identify  news  items  for the VIVAT  Newsletter
  • Advocacy
    • Correspond with grassroots VIVAT members working actively in eradication of poverty, sustainable development, empowerment of women, human rights, indigenous issues,  migration, HIV/AIDS  culture of peace . . .
    • Assist in the drafting of statements on the above topics, participate in UN and NGO meetings in the above issues
    • Join and participate in one or two NGO Committees at the UN and  concentrate  on  any  specific  issues/tasks of the committees
    • Help in Communicating with VIVAT-linked Justice and Peace Promoters through e-mails
    • Assist in organizing side events at the UN
    • Share grassroots JPIC concerns/good practices at the UN
  • Communication and Web assistance
    • Assist in web maintenance
    • Write news items for newsletter
    • Maintain database of communication contacts
    • Take photographs during special events
    • Assist in managing technology like printers and computers in the office
    • Update e-mail list serve
  • Required Skills:
    • Ability to work under the guidance of VIVAT Executive Team;
    • Knowledge of English; MS Office products;
    • Internet navigation and research;
    • Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills;
    • Ability to meet deadlines and maintain a flexible schedule;
    • Diplomatic skills in dealing with people from a variety of cultures and backgrounds;
    • Awareness of and sensitivity to a variety of cultural perspectives;
    • Awareness of prominent global issues;
    • Commitment to Justice, Peace and systemic change;
    • Willingness to take up several tasks simultaneously;
    • Interest in UN System, its goals and objectives

Conditions

VIVAT will not bear any financial expenses for the interns.

Working Hours

Monday through Friday: 9.00 am to 5.00 p.m.
